Recently, ITV released a new video for the downton abbey series depicting a very active season. Lady Mary is shown in several instances to have found love. It seems that Michelle Dockery’s Ice Bucket Challenge has paid off. It seems that wishes are granted through the challenge and her character might just find what she’s looking for in this season. Is Lady Mary the one being saved from the unlikely hero within the trailer?
The opening lines once again state, “I feel a shaking of the ground I stand on…” A very strong and powerful message to convey in the beginning of the trailer. Many people will be moving on and a lot of change is about to happen within the Downton Abbey household. What it is we hope to find out in this season.
There is a recent video that has just been released with Michelle Dockery doing the ice bucket challenge before the release of downton abbey season 5. Her reaction to the challenge is priceless. The individuals that help her in the challenge is something for women to look forward to. See below.
Violet Crawley (played by Maggie Smith), the Dowager Countess of Grantham, is without a doubt the best character on the period drama television series Downton Abbey. Moreover, she brings a comedic relief where it is much needed.
Violet Crawley is a protective women who never believed in her sons marriage to the American heiress, Cora Levinson. She rather keep her families name out of the public eye and from discussion. As you might know, she likes to have a somewhat firm grip on the family matters and uses her cunningness and competitiveness to get things done. She is extremely sarcastic which makes her a fantastic mind on the show.
For those of you who don’t know much about Violet’s history, she was born in 1842 to a baronet. They seemed to be impoverished and didn’t have any money to her name when she got married. She got married to the Earl of Grantham sometime before 1860, she brought upper class blood but very little dowry. She would give birth to 2 children, Robert (the Earl) and Rosamund. Unlike their mother, they married into money rather than nobility. She was not keen on Robert’s marriage but did reap the benefits.
As the anticipation ratches up for the next installment of Downton Abbey, the Countess must always control her excitement.
The thought of laughing too hard makes her sweat. Just don’t ever talk about the green stuff.
Damnit! That excitement bit just went through the window. Maybe we can calm her down. But you know how the sound of money gets to her. Nothing really gets her more excited than…
Son of a SWIVEL! This nightmare never ends. Someone is going to need to get her blood pressure medicine or some biscuits and tea. She’s not young anymore, someone needs to go get her. We need to shut this down before it gets out of control.
Downton Abbey has had its share of television show giggles and laughter with the creation of images that people find funny. Often, these images will be subjected to mimicry, some of which have nothing to do with the show itself (but are still hilarious in general).
Everyone loves to laugh, it really cleanses the soul. It releases dopaminergic (feel good chemicals in the brain) effects that enables individuals to relax. Come September and January, respectively, new memes are bound to surface. Until then, we wait in anticipation for the show to start…. The day that season starts, many of us will be expressing ourselves through the art of…
dance! Screw dudes… We just want to go out and express ourselves through the art of dance (Dane Cook). And when the first episode goes crazy out of control, we must always remember to…
Poor Daisy… Especially when you hear your American friend say the name of the show “Downtown,” instead of “Downton.” Anger builds from within and you try to hide it internally. But you wish you could act out like Mr. Bates…
But when that work hour strikes 5’oclock on a Friday afternoon, you know you only have a couple days until…
But when you least expect it and the show lacks a taste of comedy, the good ole Dowager Countess, Violet Crawley, card is dealt creating havoc and violent wreckage…

The Christmas Special for Downton Abbey on ITV has changed this year as it has moved physical location from Highclere castle to Alnwick castle. Alnwick castle as you know was used for the Harry Potter series. They have embellished the castle using artificial snow.
The period drama is being shot in the middle of August and the video can be seen here, shows Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) and Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) taking a stroll down the side of the castle and river. The downton crew have made the entire landscape a snowy pasture all around Nothumberland.
That being said, Laura Carmichael speaks out about her character, Lady Edith. Speaking to “Hit Fix,” she states that no one really knows where Edith will be. She explains that her child is in the country without her and Gregson is no where to be found. The family doesn’t really know. Furthermore, she says that she won’t really be getting sympathy from the family. Lady Edith’s emotions and mental health will be all over the place. Her character is someone to really focus on as she is a psychological mess. She really has placed herself in this situation and I believe this is a slippery slope for her.
It seems that Lady Mary will soon pick between her two very handsome suitors, which has been proposed by venture capital posts. These two suitors to recall are Lord Gillingham (Tom Cullen) and Lord Blake (Julian Ovenden). Although she is still unsure, hints in season 5 might shed light on who is going to win that prized possession.
PBS Downton Abbey has been a steady grower of fans for the past 4 seasons. That being said, the show has struggled to regain form since the killing off of Dan Steven’s (Matthew Crawley) in season 2. A lot of Downton Abbey supporters that advocate for PBS have recently been struggling with staying current with the show due to the severity of the writing (including Anna’s rape and Matthew’s death). With that stated, the viewership has increased to 8.5 million (up 4%).
It has become quite apparent that the viewers want a “fantasy” show where this kind of brutality and reality doesn’t take place. And the writers are at a standpoint at what they believe should be done with the show. The great thing about the period drama is that unlike its predecessor , “Upstairs, Downstairs,” Downton Abbey has a multi-storyline. If one of the storylines is growing stale, the other storylines can keep the show from dropping off. In “Upstairs, Downstairs,” if the storyline went ill, the entire show suffered.
The show puts on a soapy after taste. It encompasses aspects of normal soaps with elements that aren’t normal soaps. The show is very fast paced, living in a single community, phenomenal cinematic production, and casting of high quality actors and actresses separates the two.
The saving grace of the entire show is the gungho, “Maggie Smith (79),” who plays Violet Crawley the countess. She brings this comedy appeal that levels the period drama. She brings the snobbishness back a tad allowing the onlookers to understand that some of this shouldn’t be taken as serious.
This being said, this show will never be mixed up for “Real Housewives of Yorkshire.” The show brings real substance and it’s not about making the best ratings, rather, the best storyline,
Downton Abbey is been having one of those intense seasons and season 5 is starting to shape up like it’s going to be fun. The cast and crew have been seen using Alnwick castle (Harry Potter Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry) for some important aspect of the television series. It seems plausible that some new Duke and Duchess might be making themselves known next season.
The one thing we all would like to see is Lady Mary, Anna, Mr. Bates and the rest dressed up in Quidditch uniforms out on the lawn playing an old fashioned game of throw the ball through the hole. Somewhere within the crevices of the castle, there is a trapped door that encases all these uniforms.
During the time of the shooting, many parts of the castle are off limits to the already massive visitors to the castle.
