The British hit television series Downton Abbey on PBS has been getting a lot of press recently, mainly because there are lots of jibber jabber of Julian Fellowes leaving the show for another. With that already getting fans blood curdling, to amplify the emotional swing, it’s not helping many when a Congressman in the United States, whom a fan of Downton Abbey, is spending taxpayer funded money towards hot photographers.
With all the snuff about high class aristocracy and the promotion of the show itself, this doesn’t really help the show, it only opens a can of worms about high society and there mistreatment of lower income society. Schock is a Congressman from Illinois, and he has a handsome photographer follow him day and night on taxpayer money.
If this isn’t enough for you, he spends $10,000 on Superbowl tickets, partying with Ariana Grande, and staying at lavish hotels that are named dropped from other high class society. Is this a massive issue, not really because it happens all the time in congress. The massive problem is that it happens all the time in Congress… and nothing is done about it. Now it is clinging on to Downton Abbey and bringing it down. Take a look at this ALS challenge by Schock and just remember, this was most likely done using taxpayer money.
Fans of the hit British television show series Downton Abbey will be sorely pissed as it has come to our attention that the new television series, “The Gilded Age,” will be at the forefront of Julian Fellowes mind. Seeing that Julian Fellowes writes every single episode, without him to keep up the series, it looks like season 6 will be the very end of Downton Abbey.
Although we have come to respect and admire Downton Abbey, it shouldn’t be a total loss as “The Gilded Age” will follow the typical plot line. The difference between the storyline is that the show will take place in the late nineteenth century that follows the lives of American millionaires. WoooHoooo, another show that admires the rich!
Even though this isn’t a 100% guarantee, it seem like this has become a priority for them and moving “The Gilded Age” forward. It has been looming in the dark for the past two years and I feel that Fellowes is ready to move on.
January is one of those months we make our teeth grind. Filled with New Years resolutions (i.e. Back on that treadmill we go) and empty pockets from the holidays greetings, for some of us, there isn’t much to be very happy about. For the United States, one thing is for sure, Downton abbey is back for season 5 and we all have something to savor for.
The premiere of downton abbey season 5 for most of us will be the treat we need to make it not only through the work week, but through the new years resolutions we all promised ourselves. No more cupcake parlors, no more chipotle, no more ben and jerry’s chocolate fudge brownie ice cream, and certainly no more over indulgence in starbucks.. because we are trying to make a statement this year.
With that being said, the one thing we all do not have to extricate from our lives is the brand new episodes of Downton. If you haven’t been following the facebook page (which is good on you), then you will be in for many treats. Furthermore, unlike the past Christmas Specials, this one comes with quite the goodies.
We electric slide into the ‘Jazz Age’ in the heart of 1924. A noticeable face emerges, an American actor that goes by a very familiar name. For some of us, we aren’t impressed. While for others, it couldn’t have come fast enough. Hopefully, you all have revisited season 4 catching the tidbits that will condense and manifest in this seasons episodes. There are many questions to be asked including Tom Branson and Lady Mary. Also, is there some other courting in the midst? We are still on the edges of our couches (remove the popcorn and the chocolate fudge brownie morsels) waiting to for this series to yield its wondrous nectar.
What are your expectations for this seasons? What questions are you hoping to finally be revealed? Please produce your answers on our FB page or the comment section below!
Downton Abbey starts back up with season 5 September 21 in UK. All of us can barely hold it together as the plots become increasingly controversial and tensions cut with Daisy’s face. We have heard a lot of speculations, but until the beat drops for the upcoming episodes of our highly anticipated british drama, here are some funny pictures and memes we have come across. Not all of them are the funniest, but it really depends on your sort of humor. We hope you enjoy!
When a TV show takes the audience back in time and manages to get the feel and atmosphere right, it tends to succeed. That’s exactly what has happened with the immensely popular Downtown Abbey series. One of the best aspects about the show is how it manages to seamlessly intertwine historic facts into the timeline, showing the impact of such events on the characters. A few of these events especially stand out.
Titanic Sinks with the Crawley Family Heirs
The heart wrenching tragedy of the sinking of the Titanic was neatly stitched into the first episode of the very first season of Downtown Abbey and the impact it left beautifully mirrored the devastation and sorrow that was caused as a result of the event. With Lord Grantham’s heir James and his son Patrick losing their lives with hundreds of passengers on the Titanic, the entire family faced an extremely sorrowful time.
World War I Leaves its Lasting Mark
When Season 2 opened with Mathew Crawley in Northern France fighting the Battle of the Somme, viewers knew that the series would take on a darker tone. Indeed, the harsh realities of World War I were amply highlighted. The shock of the war itself, the disbelief when Britain could not subdue her enemies after a few weeks of battle and the slowly dawning comprehension that the war would not end any time soon and that casualties would be high were depicted beautifully on the show.
Spanish Flu Outbreak Debilitates the Crawleys
History’s deadliest flu pandemic got its share of the spotlight on Downtown Abbey too. The Spanish Flu hit right after the war, giving viewers little time to recover from that shock before being hit by the next. But history attests to the fact that this was, in fact, the series of events, because it was the soldiers who transmitted the disease so far and wide, within a short span of time.
Many more historic incidents have been integrated into the storyline, leaving audiences wondering where reality stops and fiction begins. The mark of a great writer is evident in the Downtown Abbey series and that is perhaps why viewers love the series quite so much.
Being featured in a world famous drama series is not a distinction that many buildings achieve, but the stately Highclere Castle has done it. This is the home shown in Downtown Abbey, the drama series about pre- Edwardian British aristocrats. In fact, one of the residents of this castle, the 5th Countess of Carnarvon is the inspiration behind one of the most popular characters of this show – Lady Cora.
1000-acre Castle Belonging to the Carnarvons
Almost all episodes of the show have been filmed on the grounds of this imposing castle located in West Berkshire. The 1000-acre sprawling castle belongs to the Carnarvon family since 1679. With 50 bedrooms, there is sure to have been enough place for guests here no matter how big the party got!
Before Highclere came into being in its present day avatar, a medieval palace belonging to the Bishop of Winchester occupied this space. Right about the time when Queen Victoria took charge of England’s fortunes, the castle was renovated by Sir Charles Barry. It was transformed into a dazzling example of Jacobethan architecture and design intermingled with Italian design elements. When Benjamin Disraeli got his first glimpse at Highclere, he is believed to have exclaimed, “How scenical!”
The King Tut Connection at Highclere
In a very interesting twist, there is actually a connection between the residents of Highclere and King Tut’s spectacular treasures. The 5th Earl of Carnarvon was in fact known as the discoverer of the Egyptian boy king’s tomb, along with Howard Carter. Some believe that Tut’s curse led to the Earl’s death in Cairo, when a mosquito bite caused a fatal infection! When he died, the lights in Cairo went off and the Earl’s dog died at Highclere – peculiar coincidences that add to the mystery of the story.
There have been rumors circulating the internet with the possibility of the U.S. getting the same time slot as the UK. They were able to get this confirmation with Julian Fellowes. When PBS commented, it seemed more like a fantasy. Although it would be nice, there would be too much competition for the time slots.
One of the biggest pushes to get the U.S. to have the same viewing time as the UK is due to the massive amount of “Spoilers” flying around the internet while the episodes haven’t aired in the U.S. I won’t lie, I’m not helping the situation, but for my UK followers, it’s imperative that I tell them what is going on and what they should be looking for the upcoming episodes.
Although talks have been circulating about this possible move, it seems unlikely. Currently, the U.S. still set to aire Downton Abbey on January 2015. I will keep you updated to the state of Downton Abbey as I hear more about this possibility.
Hold the presses, hold the presses! It seems that if you are a Downton Abbey lover and a George Clooney lover… Then your heart is going to beat out of its chest. It seems that George Clooney has been given a free tour around the Highclere Castle.
For those of you whom haven’t been following the bachelor Clooney around, it seems that he has found the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Her name is Amal Almuddin. Amal Almuddin is a london based, British-Lebanese lawyer. Along with her brains, she is an activist and author. She is specializes in criminal and international law, civil rights and extradition.
As you know, George Clooney himself has made waves in his activism, being arrested several times for voicing his concerns in the south Sudan. He started voicing out his concerns and became a real activist back in 2003 when he voiced out on gun control. For someone who is in the spotlight all the time, Clooney shared with us something that is much more intimate than his acting career, that is human rights. No surprise that he wants to marry a beautiful and smart individual who has spent her life to fighting back wrongful doings.
