Downton Abbey Superfan Getaway Vacation

Hold the presses, hold the presses! If you haven’t heard about Joanne Froggatts award for being best supporting actress, well you just heard it here. Furthermore and in my own respect and importance, Highclere castle is opening its doors and taking reservations for one of two guest cabins. That is right, now you can stay at the luxurious castle where the television series is filmed. The cost for this excursion per night is $550, a small price to pay to be so close to television royalty.
If you are unable to fly over the pond for this type of trip, there are other trip you can take. Georgia’s Sea Island is rated the top resort destination in the south where they will be placing on a costume party and proper English dinner. The English dinner will be $250 per head and Laura Carmichael (“Lady Edith”) as well as Kevin Doyle (footman “Joseph Molesley”) and Raquel Cassidy (“Phyllis Baxter,” Lady Grantham’s maid) are expected to be in attendance during the weekend.
So if you are looking for some serious Downton Action where the show just isn’t enough, these are two really good offers.

The Real Downtown Abbey – Highclere Castle

Being featured in a world famous drama series is not a distinction that many buildings achieve, but the stately Highclere Castle has done it. This is the home shown in Downtown Abbey, the drama series about pre- Edwardian British aristocrats. In fact, one of the residents of this castle, the 5th Countess of Carnarvon is the inspiration behind one of the most popular characters of this show – Lady Cora.
1000-acre Castle Belonging to the Carnarvons
Almost all episodes of the show have been filmed on the grounds of this imposing castle located in West Berkshire. The 1000-acre sprawling castle belongs to the Carnarvon family since 1679. With 50 bedrooms, there is sure to have been enough place for guests here no matter how big the party got!
Before Highclere came into being in its present day avatar, a medieval palace belonging to the Bishop of Winchester occupied this space. Right about the time when Queen Victoria took charge of England’s fortunes, the castle was renovated by Sir Charles Barry. It was transformed into a dazzling example of Jacobethan architecture and design intermingled with Italian design elements. When Benjamin Disraeli got his first glimpse at Highclere, he is believed to have exclaimed, “How scenical!”
The King Tut Connection at Highclere
In a very interesting twist, there is actually a connection between the residents of Highclere and King Tut’s spectacular treasures. The 5th Earl of Carnarvon was in fact known as the discoverer of the Egyptian boy king’s tomb, along with Howard Carter. Some believe that Tut’s curse led to the Earl’s death in Cairo, when a mosquito bite caused a fatal infection! When he died, the lights in Cairo went off and the Earl’s dog died at Highclere – peculiar coincidences that add to the mystery of the story.

George Clooney Wedding

Hold the presses, hold the presses! It seems that if you are a Downton Abbey lover and a George Clooney lover… Then your heart is going to beat out of its chest. It seems that George Clooney has been given a free tour around the Highclere Castle.

For those of you whom haven’t been following the bachelor Clooney around, it seems that he has found the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Her name is Amal Almuddin. Amal Almuddin is a london based, British-Lebanese lawyer. Along with her brains, she is an activist and author. She is specializes in criminal and international law, civil rights and extradition.

As you know, George Clooney himself has made waves in his activism, being arrested several times for voicing his concerns in the south Sudan. He started voicing out his concerns and became a real activist back in 2003 when he voiced out on gun control. For someone who is in the spotlight all the time, Clooney shared with us something that is much more intimate than his acting career, that is human rights. No surprise that he wants to marry a beautiful and smart individual who has spent her life to fighting back wrongful doings.
